According to investigations by pseudonymous internet detective ZachXBT, rapper-turned-crypto-enthusiast Soulja Boy has pushed hundreds of digital coins and NFT projects, some of which turned out to be frauds.

They claim that since March 2021, Soulja Boy has tweeted 73 times regarding different cryptocurrency projects and NFTs. ZachXBT specifically references a March lawsuit filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission accusing Soulja Boy and other celebrities—including Lindsay Lohan, Jake Paul, Akon, and Ne-Yo—of pushing BitTorrent (BTT) and tronix (TRX) without paying royalties. In 2021, he also promoted RAPDOGE, a token that is now dead. The agency thinks that Soulja Boy made over $730,000 from his social media promotions to his millions of fans.

As of press time, Soulja Boy had sold five tweets as NFTs, agreeing to bids as low as 0.0029 or $5 in one case. “I was the first rapper to release an NFT,” he says in his most recent NFT tweet. It was eventually sold for $200.

According to the website of NFT platform Valuables, only the author of the tweet can choose to have their content immortalized on the blockchain. If they agree, the highest bidder receives a digital certificate of the tweet. This certificate is one-of-a-kind because it must be cryptographically signed using the author’s private key.
