Hacker
What is Hacker?
A hacker is someone who employs computer, networking, or other skills to solve a technological problem. Anyone who uses their ability to obtain unauthorized access to systems or networks in order to commit crimes may also be referred to as a hacker. A hacker may steal information to harm people through identity theft, or he or she may bring down a system and often hold it hostage in order to collect a ransom.
Understanding Hacker
Historically, the term hacker has been polarizing, sometimes being used as a term of respect for persons who demonstrate a high level of expertise and originality in their approach to technical challenges. However, the phrase is also used to describe people who employ this expertise for unlawful or unethical goals.
The term “hacker” was coined in the 1960s to represent a programmer or an individual who, in an era of severely limited computer capabilities, could improve the efficiency of computer programming by removing, or hacking, unnecessary machine code instructions from a program. It has come to describe to someone who has a deep understanding of computers, networking, programming, or hardware.
