Y Combinator’s Winter 2023 Demo Day Batch Features 60 AI and Machine Learning Startups

Tomorrow marks the highly anticipated Demo Day for Y Combinator, a startup accelerator program known for launching some of Silicon Valley’s most successful companies. This year’s batch sees significant participation from AI startups looking to make their mark in the industry.

Out of the 273 companies presenting to approximately 1,500 investors and media at the two-day virtual event, a staggering 60 of them are AI, autopilot, and machine learning startups. The theme among these startups seems to be generative AI and AI assistants for specific workflows, with many aiming to streamline business processes and improve customer experience.

These include:

  • Truewind, an AI-powered bookkeeping and finance software.
  • CorgiAI, which provides an AI solution to recommend rules that can be implemented in payment provider platforms (Stripe, Shopify, Adyen) to proactively reduce dispute + fraud rates.
  • Extend, a copilot for internal workflows.
  • Intently, a platform that leverages AI algorithms to analyze digital footprint data, helping sales teams identify the best targets.
  • Haven, an AI-powered front desk for property managers.
  • OfOne, an AI-powered order taker for restaurant drive-thrus.

More than half of the participants in this batch are generative AI startups, five of which are claiming to be building ‘ChatGPT for X.’ Some noteworthy ones are: BerriAI, an API for SaaS businesses to create ChatGPT apps programmatically; Baselit, which allows businesses to generate chatbot-style customer-facing analytics powered by GPT-3; and Yuma, which is building ChatGPT for customer support automation.

Apart from these B2B AI startups, other generative AI startups building products for consumers are also presenting at the Demo Day. For instance, Decoherence enables anyone to generate videos from prompts; Linen, which launched in private beta in February, claims to be the Midjourney for video; Pair AI wants to help creators, educators, and experts to launch addicting mobile-first video courses and provide AI-assisted coaching services at scale.

With an increasing number of established, well-funded companies making pivots to AI as ChatGPT continues dominating the headlines, startups launching AI products in the industry will be facing tough competition.

Since 2005, Y Combinator has funded more than 2,000 startups, including include Airbnb, Stripe, Dropbox, and Coinbase. The tech startup accelerator has an aggregate portfolio value of over $600 billion.

With so many AI companies presenting at Y Combinator’s Demo Day this year, it will be interesting to see how they stack up against each other and which ones have the potential to become the next big thing in Silicon Valley.
