Wimbledon releases an NFT collection
Wimbledon has launched an NFT collection. The oldest tennis tournament in the world, founded in 1877, is considered the most prestigious. In 1922, the All England Club moved from Worple Road to the tournament’s iconic location on Church Road. “The Centenary Collection” aims to mark a century since the move.
AELTC (All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club) partnered with Glorious to issue the NFTs.
Glorious is an NFT marketplace and a creative studio. The platform is based on the CENNZ blockchain, a carbon-neutral Ethereum Side Chain.
“Wimbledon is treasured by one of the world’s largest and most dedicated assemblage of fans, many of whom will already enjoy an appreciation of digital art. With these fans in mind, Glorious has worked with the AELTC to craft a masterpiece Centenary Collection immortalizing the magnificent history and legacy of Centre Court,” said Tim Harper, Co-founder and CEO of Glorious.
The collection includes 10 NFTs. Each one is issued in 100 editions, so the total supply is 1000 NFTs. Each token features a photograph of a historical tennis moment captured during the Church Road championships.
The primary sale for an NFT starts at £500 (approximately $603 USD). Individuals can already register for the ballot of “The Centenary Collection” on Glorious’s website. Winners will be notified via mail, after which they will have 48 hours to complete the purchase of an NFT.
Important note — NFT holders will receive their tokens on July 10, 2022.
