Yuga Labs Allegedly Stole the BAKC Logo From a Children’s Drawing Book Publisher

Yuga Labs reportedly stole the logo of the Bored Ape Kennel Club NFT collection from “Easy Drawing Guides”
BAYC creators are in talks with the freelance artist who commissioned the work and with the drawing book publisher.
Yuga Labs, the studio behind the blue-chip NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club, reportedly stole the logo of Bored Ape Kennel Club from a children’s drawing book.
The likeness of the images was first noticed by a Twitter user called Colombo. The logo in question is a close recreation of a wolf skull drawing guide.
The tutorial was published by “Easy Drawing Guides” on April 5, 2021, while the Bored Ape Kennel Club collection was released on June 17, 2021. In November, Yuga Labs applied a trademark to the skull image that did not belong to them. The guide publisher noted that the skull drawing was protected under the Terms and Conditions of “Easy Drawing Guides,” and Yuga Labs did not have a license or permission to use it for the logo.
Yuga Labs’ co-founder Greg Solano, also known as Gargamel, stated that the company is currently looking into the situation. He said BAYC creators have already contacted the freelance artist who was commissioned to do the work and are in talks with “Easy Drawing Guides” to fix the situation. Solano also mentioned that the logo would be replaced on the collection’s website and all the relative pages.
Numerous Twitter users commented on the issue by advising the book publisher to sue Yuga Labs and not accept any future money offers from them.
Yuga Labs is among the strongest players in the NFT space, thanks to its well-marketed Bored Ape Yacht Club collection. The company is valued at $4 billion, and its Bored Ape Kennel Club project has a market cap of over 78,735 ETH, according to CoinGeko.
However, the organization has been facing problems. In June 2022, YouTube blogger Pillion shared a video dubbed “Bored Ape Nazi Club.” The film explains similarities between the BAYC collection and Nazi imagery. In October 2022, The U.S. Security and Exchange Commission started investigating Yuga Labs for the violation of federal law by selling unregistered digital assets.
