The Nelson Mandela Foundation announces an upcoming NFT collection
The Nelson Mandela Foundation announces the launch of an NFT collection to honor Mandela Day. The collection aims to highlight the legacy of the former president of South Africa.
Nelson Mandela, who passed away in 2013, had a huge positive impact on the world. In 2009, the United Nations announced Mandela’s birthday—July 18—would become Mandela International Day.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation partners with NFT marketplace Glorious Digital for the NFT release. The creative studio is based on the CENNZ blockchain, a carbon-neutral Ethereum Side Chain. The Foundation will grant Glorious Digital access to Mandela’s photos, personal documents, and more. The 10-year partnership intents to celebrate the life of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Notably, funds from NFT sales will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, which contributes to the making of societies by mobilizing the leader’s legacy.
“To be entrusted with Mandela’s archive, legacy, and messages of togetherness, optimism, leadership, equality, freedom, and hope, amongst others, is an honor and a privilege,” said the CEO of Glorious Digital, Tim Harper.
The companies did not announce the release date yet. However, interested individuals can sign up on Glorious’ website to receive updates on the project.
In June, Glorious created “The Centenary Collection” in partnership with Wimbledon. The prestigious tennis tournament moments were issued as NFTs to celebrate 100 years of the championship.
