FC Barcelona launches its first NFT
Football club Barcelona announces the launch of its first-ever NFT. Dubbed “In a way, immortal,” the piece is a one-of-one edition audio-visual digital artwork.
Produced by Digital Superstudio, the cinematic piece recreates the style and aesthetics of the legendary 1973 flying kick and goal performed by Johan Cruyff. FC Barcelona also partnered with an innovative technology company BCN Visuals to develop the NFT.
“In a way, immortal” grants the holder a variety of exclusive utilities: visits to La Masia, Meet&Greets, and hospitality rights. Moreover, the new “Barça Digital Ambassador” will even have the possibility to play at Spotify Camp Nou and officially hand over the ball before a friendly match.
“Barça, with more than 400 million followers on social networks, is constantly opening new ways to connect with our fans, and we believe that with the Club’s new NFT strategy, we found a unique opportunity to continue growing and consolidating the Barça brand. We´re delighted to feature Johan Cruyff in our first FC Barcelona Masterpiece In a Way, Immortal, with Johan having such a huge influence on FC Barcelona as a Club, but on modern Football as it is played today in general. This being captured in such an artistic way is a great from of paying tribute to Johan Cruyff, this iconic moment and to the whole legacy and historical heritage of FC Barcelona,” says the President of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta.
The artwork is auctioned in a hybrid online-live mode at Sotheby’s New York. Bidding is open until July 29. Fans have the option to pay in fiat currencies or cryptocurrency: USDC, DOT, ETH, or BTC.
