Meta Introduces the Quest 3 VR Headset
In Brief
Meta has announced the upcoming release of the Quest 3 VR headset.
Priced at $499, the Quest 3 will be 40% thinner and feature color mixed reality.
Meta’s announcement came just days before Apple’s WWDC23, where Apple is expected to reveal its own mixed-reality headset.
Meta has unveiled its highly anticipated VR headset, the Quest 3. The CEO of Meta Platforms, Mark Zuckerberg revealed the mixed reality device on Instagram a few hours before the company’s annual gaming conference, Meta Quest Gaming Showcase.
Meta’s blog post revealed details about the new headset, including its sleek design, 40% thinner than its predecessor. Featuring color mixed reality, a captivating fusion of augmented and virtual reality elements, the Quest 3 promises an unparalleled immersive experience.
The device boasts a new Qualcomm chipset, doubling the graphics performance for enhanced visual quality. The Quest 3 will be available in fall with 128GB storage for $499.99, plus an additional storage option. More information will be unveiled during Meta’s VR conference in September.
The compatibility with Quest 2 games ensures a seamless transition for existing users. To stay informed about the Quest 3, interested individuals can sign up for updates. Meta plans to enhance the performance of Quest 2 and Quest Pro through a forthcoming software update, offering improved CPU and GPU performance and enabling Dynamic Resolution Scaling.
The social media giant has also announced a price reduction for the Quest 2, making it more accessible to enthusiasts. The Quest 2’s value has been lowered by $100, with the 128GB version priced at $299.99, and the 256GB version now available for $349.99.
The company shared plans to release the Quest 3 during the third quarter of 2022 earnings announcement, highlighting an expected increase in cost of revenue. The rise was attributed, in part, to the expenses associated with Reality Labs hardware, specifically due to the forthcoming launch of the next iteration of the consumer-focused Quest headset.
Meta announced the VR headset only a few days before the WWDC23, Apple’s annual conference, in which Apple plans to reveal its long-awaited mixed-reality headset.
