MetaKing Studios, a web3-focused game development studio, announces a partnership with Polygon Labs to launch its upcoming debut title, BLOCKLORDS, a medieval grand strategy multiplayer game.
The Ethereum Layer-2 scaling platform, Polygon, will power BLOCKLORDS’ in-game asset experience and environment, as well as offer players fast and cost-efficient transactions backed by Ethereum’s native security and decentralization.
Last May, MetaKing Studios raised $15 million in seed funding, backed by industry giants, such as Square Enix, Animoca Brands, and Bitkraft. According to a press release shared with Metaverse Post, the studio’s debut title has seen over 265,000 users registered to play the game so far.
In the hardcore medieval dynasty simulator with a Game of Thrones-style narrative, gamers will play as one of the numerous available NFT-based heroes, from farmers to kings. They will be able to build their fortunes, raid their neighbors in epic battles to rule lands, or even collect taxes from others and carefully allocate them to fund their city needs.
BLOCKLORDS is developed by a team of gaming professionals previously involved in the gaming industry’s most acclaimed games and studios, including Crusader Kings, Liberators, Seascape.Network, EA, Ubisoft, Disney, Apple, Paradox, and Creative Assembly.
“We’re thrilled to announce our collaboration with Polygon Labs and the expansion of BLOCKLORDS in-game economy,” said BLOCKLORDS CEO David Johansson.” It is truly remarkable to see what the Polygon Labs team has been doing for mainstream adoption, and we are thrilled and lucky to have them on board as we move toward game launch later this year.”
Polygon has been making an aggressive push into web3 gaming of late. Square Enix recently partnered with Polygon to launch its upcoming web3 interactive digital collectible art experience, Symbiogenesis. Polygon recently teamed up with Immutable to launch a new zkEVM.
On Monday, Polygon launched its zkEVM Mainnet Beta — a zero-knowledge rollup that functions similarly to Ethereum’s mainnet at a lower cost and higher speed. Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, initiated the first transaction on Polygon’s new zkEVM.
Blue-chip gaming projects such as Midnight Society and Oath of Peak and trusted infrastructure providers such as ANKR, Alchemy, Sequence, and The Graph are also building on Polygon’s zkEVM.
