Swiss watchmaker Rolex files Metaverse, NFT, and crypto trademarks
In Brief
Rolex files Web3 trademark applications
The trademarks cover NFTs and NFT marketplaces, virtual goods, and downloadable computer software
Luxury Swiss watchmaker Rolex files crypto, Metaverse, and NFT trademark applications. Mike Kondoudis, the United States Patent and Trademark Office licensed trademark attorney, shared the news on his Twitter.
According to the application, the Geneva-based company plans to develop downloadable computer software for blockchain technology. The software might function as a digital wallet and contain virtual objects, NFTs, and digital collectibles.
Then, the trademark applications cover financial patronage and sponsorship services, as well as cryptocurrency transactions conducted with the help of NFTs and other blockchain technologies. The company is planning to hold virtual interactive auctions for digital objects, including watches, NFTs, and art objects. Rolex also plans to provide online spaces for collectors and sellers of virtual watches, watch parts, and related NFTs.
In addition, the company plans to place marketing campaigns in the Metaverse, following Italian luxury fashion brand Gucci and its “Flora” campaign in Roblox.
Several luxury Swiss watchmakers have entered the Web3 space before Rolex. The “adoption” list features Chronoswiss, which created a Metaverse location of its flagship store in Decentraland, and Franck Muller, who launched an NFT series of limited-edition watches. TAG Heuer issued a model that permits its owners to display their blue-chip NFTs, while Hublot tapped renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami to create unique watches and NFT designs.
