SuperRare Inaugurates an NFT Art Exhibition in New York City
In Brief
NFT marketplace SuperRare will host an IRL exhibition in the 0x.17 gallery in New York City.
The initiative takes off with “Artifacts,” a solo exhibition from AI artist Claire Silver.
Doors open on June 1.
Curated NFT marketplaces SuperRare is set to open a physical pop-up art exhibition at the 0x.17 gallery, located in New York City’s South Street Seaport neighborhood.
The exhibition starts on June 1 with “Artifacts,” a solo exhibition of digital and AI artist Claire Silver. She is most known for mixing digital and physical art: Claire tends to use acrylic abstracts with artificial intelligence-generated portraits. One of Silver’s artworks was recently donated to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). The museum also received a donation from NFT collector Cozomo de Medici, whose collection included 22 non-fungible token artworks.
The “Artifacts” exhibition will include seven artworks that explore the influence of artificial intelligence on the future. The artworks are created with the use of mixed mediums, including generative art, video, still images, music, poetry, and 3D art. The exhibition will even feature an avatar with an artificial intelligence-powered voice.
SuperRare founder John Crain said that having digital artwork displayed in a gallery had been his team’s goal for some time. In May 2022, the NFT marketplace opened its first-ever physical gallery in SoHo, New York City; the exhibit was available for three months. Crain believes displaying digital art IRL makes it more accessible to a broader audience and fosters in-person connections and conversation. According to Crain, art experiences must include a story and human involvement.
