Three Arrows Capital Founder’s Lavish Villa Converts to an Urban Farm
In Brief
A Singapore villa purchased by 3AC founder Zhu Su and his wife for US$35.57 million has now been converted into organic farm.
Zhu Su, founder of the now-defunct cryptocurrency hedge fund, Three Arrows Capital (3AC), previously made headlines for acquiring a premium bungalow in Singapore.
However, recent revelations indicate that this luxury property has since metamorphosed into an urban farm. Spearheaded by a company named Abundant Cities, run by Zhu Su’s wife, the upscale bungalow on Yarwood Avenue has been a hub for tours and exclusive dinners since early this year.
Three Arrows Capital Transition
Having acquired the villa through a trust for an impressive 48.8 million yuan, Zhu Su faced turbulent times last year as the cryptocurrency market plummeted, causing the downfall of Three Arrows Capital. Amidst the chaos, rumors arose about Zhu Su’s intention to hastily sell the bungalow.
Yet, instead of selling, the property witnessed a remarkable transformation. Today, the villa’s backyard thrives as the Yarwood Homestead, an urban organic farm that doubles as both a tropical R&D facility and the headquarters of Abundant Cities.
Demonstrating a commitment to ecological design and agroecology, the farm integrates aquaculture and agriculture, producing an array of local produce, poultry, and fish. The outdoor expanses, previously manicured lawns, now house 36 vegetable patches growing diverse crops, from okra to radishes.
Even the swimming pool hasn’t been spared; it now flourishes as a natural pond teeming with aquatic flora and fauna, having shed its chlorinated past.
Urban Farming Initiative
The brain behind this urban farming endeavor is none other than Zhu Su’s wife, Evelyn Tao. Holding a PhD in biology from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Tao’s scientific background seems to play a pivotal role in this agricultural venture.
She boasts experience from prestigious institutions like the Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory and the A*STAR Institute of Medical Biology in Singapore.
Authorities arrested Zhu Su recently at Singapore’s Changi Airport, leading to his subsequent incarceration that drew attention. Importantly, the Yarwood Avenue villa doesn’t fall under the assets up for liquidation after 3AC’s collapse. The liquidators have confirmed their lack of interest in the bungalow, as their focus remains on assets directly associated with Sanjian.
