PSG partners with Asian superstar Jay Chou to launch the Metaverse art project
France’s top football club, Paris-Saint–Germain, has partnered with Asian pop singer Jay Chou to announce the launch of a new Metaverse and NFT project. The NFT collection, called “Tiger Champs,” will drop on June 23 and will be exclusively available via crypto.com.
The promotional video includes PSG’s players, such as Messi, Neymar, Verratti, Donarruma, and Marquinhos, along with Chou and the club’s mascot. The collaboration is an effort from the Parisian squad to continue developing the Asian market.
Jay Chou is a Taiwanese Mandopop actor, artist, and producer. He is a renowned figure across Asia and has appeared in Hollywood movies such as “The Green Hornet” and “Now You See Me 2.” Chou is considered one of Asia’s top pop artists. Last month, his online concert had over 100 million views.
In 2021, Chou collaborated with Sotheby’s to auction “Contemporary Curated: Asia”; the art series was highly successful with 100% of lots sold, earning the “white glove” designation. The total sale topped $109 million and broke nine artist auction records.
With the PSG collaboration, Chou looks to perform soon at PSG’s stadium, Parc del Princes, making him the first Mandarin artist to do a show there. The superstar is also committed to PSG’s philanthropic causes. Along with the PSG Endowment Fund, Chou aims to raise awareness and funds for underprivileged children.
It’s not the first time PSG has been linked with the Metaverse. In March, the club filed a trademark application for a Metaverse platform. In April 2021, they launched their first NFT collection with Lucky Buddy, and this year they released another NFT to celebrate Messi’s seventh Ballon d’Or. In January 2020, PSG became one of the first football clubs to launch their own cryptocurrency, the $PSG fan token, which recently exceeded $15 billion in sales.
