Kids Foot Locker brings “House of Play” into Roblox’s metaverse
In Brief
Kids Foot Locker takes the ‘House of Play’ initiative to Roblox’s immersive virtual gaming platform.
The metaverse experience offers kids to play games, unlock ‘powerful’ sneakers, and explore an interactive virtual space.
Kids Foot Locker has announced a limited-time gaming experience, “House of Play,” in Roblox. The children-oriented metaverse experience offers an interactive virtual space to play games and unlock virtual sneakers.
The House of Play was first introduced in 2021. The initiative focuses on serving “local communities with a full-family experience rooted in play.” In a physical store in Miami, the House of Play offered interactive playscapes and various activity areas, as well as the newest apparel, accessories, and footwear for kids. Now the kid-focused initiative has moved to the metaverse.
The game is curated by virtual Kids Foot Locker store associates, called Stripers, who guide users throughout the experience as non-player characters. The mini-games on Roblox include a mini hoop basketball, a speed and parkour track, and a high jump challenge. Players can collect tokens in each game to redeem them and unlock special in-game sneakers, which give superpowers to the user and can be worn in the entire Roblox virtual universe.
The global sports apparel and footwear retailer organizes the House of Play Roblox experience through January 31, 2023.
In September, the grand American retailer Walmart introduced two interactive experiences for children in Roblox. Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play allow young customers to “collect virtual merchandise (“verch”), play games with toys and characters, earn coins and toys, attend live concerts, compete in challenges, and win fashion competitions.”
Earlier this month, Roblox reported a Q3 2022 financial loss, which caused the company’s shares to drop by more than 13%. However, in the third quarter, Roblox witnessed 24% more active daily users (58.8 million) than last year and 13.4 billion hours spent on the platform (20% more than a year ago).
