Shiba Inu’s Metaverse Set to Open in Stages by the End of 2023
In Brief
Shiba Inu’s metaverse team said that users will be able to explore parts of the project’s virtual world by the end of this year.
The team is launching a contest on April 10 to give away free land.
The vision and direction of SHIB – The Metaverse has changed to provide users with a more photorealistic experience.
The developers behind the Shiba Inu ecosystem have announced that SHIB – The Metaverse will partially open by the end of this year.
“While all development takes time, the MV team is confident that by the end of 2023, users will have the opportunity to explore some of the areas in this fantastic world, build, design, play, and develop within it. However, it should be noted that not all areas of the Metaverse will be fully completed as it is an ongoing project,” the team stated in a blog post.
As the virtual world continues its development, SHIB – The Metaverse will start launching several optimized hubs and necessary tools for users to start building and creating. Additionally, the team says that SHIB – The Metaverse has changed its vision and direction to give users a more photorealistic experience using Unreal Engine 5.1.
In the metaverse, there will be a total of 100,595 plots of land available for minting. Those who own land will have access to an area totaling 1764 m² (42 x 42), which includes any terrain, roads, and other features present. For buildable land, users will have access to 1024 m² (32 x 32), roughly equal to 11,000 square feet (105 x 105). The team is launching a contest on Apr 10 to give away free land.
Some of the key tools being developed for the first version of SHIB – The Metaverse include:
- Plot builder, which allows users to create and customize their plots from scratch or place complete pre-built objects to create a unique scene or landscape.
- Avatar builder, which enables users to create their unique digital identity from pre-made templates to customizable body features, facial elements, hairstyles, clothing, and accessories.
Shibarium, a new layer 2 network, will serve as the foundation for the metaverse’s development. The network will operate using tokens from the Shiba ecosystem, including BONE and LEASH. Shibarium’s testnet is already up and running.
Whether Shiba Inu’s plans for its virtual world will come to fruition remains to be seen, given the decreasing interest in the metaverse, as evidenced by Meta’s shift in focus towards AI and Disney’s recent decision to disband its metaverse team.
