Safe Unveils Modular Account Abstraction Stack for Polygon’s zkEVM and zkSync Era Network

In Brief

Safe will be deployed on Polygon zkEVM and zkSync Era to aid projects in treasury operations and protocol governance via its Safe{Wallet} multisig.

The smart wallet developer stack Safe{Core}, will also allow developers to build simplified and secure user experiences on top of Polygon zkEVM and zkSync Era.

Decentralized custody protocol Safe, today announced the launch of its modular account abstraction stack on Polygon zkEVM and the zkSync Era ecosystem. The announcement of Safe’s integration with the Polygon zkEVM was made by Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, on Sep10 at Safe{Con} in Berlin.

Starting Sep 11, both the Safe{Wallet}, a smart wallet developer stack employed by web3 teams for overseeing their onchain treasuries, and the Safe{Core} account abstraction stack are available on both Polygon zkEVM and zkSync Era.

Safe said that it aims to position its Web3 stack as the go-to account abstraction stack for developers of future Polygon CDK-powered zk Layer 2 app chains. The protocol cites Gnosis Pay, a decentralized payment network and self-custodial debit card, as a prime example of the synergy between Safe and Polygon.

The recently launched Gnosis Pay leverages Safe’s smart accounts with the scalability of the Polygon stack as L2.

Safe said that developers utilizing Polygon zkEVM can maximize the potential of the Safe{Core} SDK, enabling it to tap into the capabilities of smart wallets and modular account abstraction.

The SDK can be applied to use cases across gaming, retail wallets, decentralized social media, and other domains, all supported by features such as social recovery, seedless onboarding, and seamless on-ramping. In addition to its integration on Polygon zkEVM, Safe’s decision to expand to zkSync Era is rooted in zkSync Era’s early smart account adoption.

As the only zkEVM incorporating native account abstraction at the consensus layer, zkSync Era shares Safe’s vision for enhancing the user experience in the Web3 ecosystem, Lukas Schor, co-founder of Safe, explained.

“User experience in crypto remains one of the biggest obstacles to mass adoption, and smart account support fixes this,” said Marco Cora, SVP of business and operations at Matter Labs. “Making better tools and core infrastructure available for developers and projects that support Account Abstraction will lead to drastically improved user experiences and give light to new use cases.”

Safe claims to have secured around $60 billion in assets so far. It aims to establish a universal standard for safeguarding digital assets, data, and identity through its flagship web and mobile wallet, Safe{Wallet}, and its Smart Account infrastructure, Safe{Core}.
