Reddit and NFL Release Super Bowl NFTs on Polygon
In Brief
Reddit has launched a new Collectible Avatar collection to celebrate NFL and the Super Bowl.
The Polygon-based NFTs are free to mint and can be used as PFPs on Reddit.
Reddit and the NFL have partnered to create custom avatars (NFTs) for the Super Bowl, providing football fans with a new means of engaging with the upcoming event.
Reddit has introduced custom football avatars in the colors of the Kansas City and Philadelphia teams, allowing Reddit users to display their support within the platform. They can choose avatars from four teams: LVII Super Fans, Eagles, Chiefs, and The Champs.
The NFTs are free, and each user can only get one avatar. The collection is also available on OpenSea with a total sales volume amounting to 3 ETH at the time of writing. Collectors require a Vault (Reddit’s digital wallet) for storage.
As Social Media Today wrote, many Reddit users are football fans, with Reddit reporting 411 million monthly views in football communities, including 195 million views for r/NFL. The social media platform noted a 32% yearly increase in Super Bowl discussions on the app in the previous year.
Reddit introduced Collectible Avatars last summer as a reward for its most dedicated users. Over time, Reddit continued to distribute more NFTs through airdrops. By October, the number of digital wallets created by Reddit users surpassed the leading NFT marketplace OpenSea, totaling over 2.5 million.
According to Dune Analytics, there are currently almost 6.3 million Collectible Avatar holders. While the collection saw popularity in October and November, it gradually tapered off. However, with the release of Super Bowl-themed collectibles, Reddit aims to reignite the excitement and bring back the trend.
