Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo will create NFTs to support wildlife
Australia Zoo, home of the iconic crocodile hunter Steve Irwin, announced its entry into Web3 with the “Wildlife Warriors” NFT project. The initiative aims to aid conservation efforts – to protect, and raise awareness and funds for Australia’s wildlife and nature.
Australia Zoo partnered with Meadow Labs, an Australian tech startup, to create NFTs focusing on the animals living in the zoo.
The project celebrates 20 years of Australia Zoo’s Wildlife Warriors, the global wildlife force fighting against environmental crime and protecting plant and animal species. The organization was established in 2002 by the Irwins.
“The rare NFT project will comprise of a series of drops, each focusing on a different Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors animal. The NFTs will be randomly generated, non deterministic, utility-driven and 100 per cent unique to the buyer,” the official announcement says.
The one-of-a-kind NFTs will be minted on the carbon-negative Algorand blockchain. Not only it has low processing fees, but the ecosystem also doesn’t require mining, thus being one of the most energy-efficient blockchains.
An allowlist is currently open for early access. The NFTs will be available to purchase with fiat money via MoonPay or with an Algorand wallet. 100% of the profits will be donated to wildlife preservation.
