2030 Metaverse Jobs: The Jobs Market Within the Metaverse

We’re already seeing the wholehearted explosion of the Web3 world across the internet. There’s no denying that it is still in its infancy, but it won’t be long until Web3 and the metaverse become household names and the standard for access.

The technology behind the metaverse offers literally limitless opportunities and predicting where the metaverse will be in 2, 5, or 10 years is a near impossibility. What is clear, however, is that it will present a vast number of new job opportunities for people with a wide variety of skills and expertise. At the moment, the majority of the metaverse is dedicated to informal entertainment and gaming. But here’s the thing, it’s not going to be that forever.

2030 Metaverse Jobs: The Jobs Market Within the Metaverse

There are going to be completely new web3 jobs and metaverse jobs that exist solely in or dedicated to the metaverse, alongside traditional jobs that take place within the metaverse itself. The beauty of it all is the revolution of the workplace against the traditional 9-to-5 corporate world. There’s no denying that huge, global corporations will take up some metaverse real estate, but there will be increased opportunities for absolutely everyone.

The Benefits of Metaverse Jobs

This is what Midjourney AI thinks Metaverse jobs will look like

These jobs will come with perks built in. Simply by being a job within the metaverse, you’re going to see huge improvements in:

Flexibility

One of the biggest perks of metaverse jobs is that they can be done from anywhere. As long as you’ve got an internet connection, you can work from home, from a beach in Bali, or from your parent’s basement. Imagine a world where even those with disabilities and mobility issues are afforded complete equality because everyone is accessing the workplace in the same way.

Productivity

Everything inside the metaverse is going to be designed better and more efficiently than traditional jobs, tailored to productivity. Need a new setup? Just create it. All of the tools and resources that you need will be available at the click of a button inside your own virtual office.

Collaboration

Metaverse jobs are going to make it easier for people to collaborate, no matter where they are physically located. You’ll be able to work on projects with people from all around the world and share ideas in real time.

Job Security

There’s always been concern that some jobs are going to be taken by AI and robots as we progress. Some simple, physical roles may well be replaced, but there will always be a place for humans with the right mindset. AI tools, such as ChatGPT and others, should be seen as exactly that. They are tools. Writers around the world are worried that with the advent of AI such as ChatGPT, their roles are doomed when actually it should be argued that if you’re great at your profession then you can use it to become even better.

Consider Canva, which came out nearly a decade ago, everyone thinks they’re a graphic designer but really there’s horrible graphic design everywhere and when people want a job done properly, they turn to professionals.

Metaverse Jobs and Roles

There are, of course, going to be all of the typical roles that go into creating and maintaining the metaverse itself. That means lots of typical Web2 and Web3 roles will simply become Metaverse roles. These will include:

  1. Metaverse architect: These professionals will design and plan the layout and functionality of the metaverse, taking into account factors such as user experience, scalability, and security.
  1. Metaverse developer: Similar to software developers, these individuals will create and maintain the underlying code and systems that power the metaverse.
  1. Metaverse designer: These professionals will be responsible for creating the look and feel of the metaverse, including everything from the appearance of virtual spaces to the avatars that users will use to represent themselves.
  1. Metaverse content creator: This could include a wide range of roles, such as 3D modelers, animators, and writers, who will create the various forms of media and experiences that will be available within the metaverse.
  1. Metaverse community manager: These individuals will be responsible for managing and moderating online communities within the metaverse, ensuring that they are welcoming and safe for all users.
  1. Metaverse customer support: As with any online platform, there will be a need for customer support personnel to help users with issues and answer their questions.
  1. Metaverse entrepreneurs: The metaverse will provide a new platform for entrepreneurs to start businesses and offer services. These could include everything from virtual clothing stores to virtual event spaces.

But there’ll also be a great array of traditional roles that will migrate to the metaverse opening up incredible opportunities without the restraint of the physical world. Imagine a virtual reality-based ecosystem that includes job roles such as:

  1. Metaverse tour guide: As the metaverse becomes more realistic and immersive, it may be possible for people to take tours of locations around the world, or even to other planets or fictional worlds. Metaverse tour guides could lead these tours and provide commentary and information about the places being visited.
  1. Metaverse therapist: As the metaverse becomes more realistic and immersive, it is possible that it could be used as a tool for therapy and rehabilitation. VR therapists would work with clients in virtual environments to help them overcome various mental and physical challenges that they’re dealing with in the real world.
Metaverse Jobs and Roles
  1. Metaverse event planner: The metaverse could provide a new platform for hosting events, such as concerts, conferences, or trade shows. metaverse event planners would be responsible for organizing and coordinating these events, including booking venues, arranging logistics, and promoting the event.
  1. Metaverse personal trainer: It may be possible for people to work with metaverse personal trainers to get in shape, either by participating in metaverse workouts or by using it to visualize and practice proper form for various exercises.
  1. Metaverse language tutor: The metaverse could provide a new platform for language education, allowing people to immerse themselves in virtual environments where they can practice their language skills with native speakers. These language tutors would be responsible for designing and leading these language learning experiences as you might expect a traditional teacher to do so.
  1. Metaverse interior designer: People may be able to use metaverse to design and visualize the interior of their homes or offices, and metaverse interior designers could help them to do so. These professionals would be responsible for creating 3D models of the spaces and assisting with the selection of furniture and other elements. These same individuals could help design interiors for buildings within the metaverse itself working with graphic and 3D designers.

Key Takeaways

We’re some distance from metaverse jobs replacing traditional jobs, and the physical world isn’t going anywhere, but it’s exciting to think about what roles might exist related to the metaverse by 2030. That’s only 7 years away. Add 5 more years to that and we’re at the same point in time that “I, Robot” was set… let that sink in.

  • More and more roles will begin to appear related to the creation of the metaverse. These will appear first before traditional roles within the metaverse grow in popularity.
  • This will all happen faster than we can anticipate, with mass adoption happening faster than traditional uptake of new technologies.
