Opera Unveils Aria, New AI in Natively Integrated With Its Web Browser
In Brief
Aria is born from Opera’s collaboration with OpenAI.
It is a free service with access to real-time information from the web.
Aria is now available in more than 180 countries including the EU.
Opera has unveiled its new browser AI Aria today. Born from a collaboration with OpenAI, Aria is a chatbot natively built into the Opera browser.
Aria is a free service with access to real-time information from the web and is now available in more than 180 countries, including the EU. According to Opera’s blog post, Aria is based on Opera’s own “Composer” infrastructure and connects to OpenAI’s GPT technology. Easily expandable, Opera’s Composer infrastructure allows Aria to connect to multiple AI models.
With Aria, users can harness AI capabilities while searching for information on the web, generate text or code, and receive answers to product-related inquiries. Aria can also assist with customer support as it draws on Opera’s entire database of support documentation and can use the company’s current product knowledge to answer users’ questions.
“AI is rapidly changing how we work, browse the web and naturally, how we think about browsers and the part they can play in users’ online experience,” Joanna Czajka, Product Director, Opera for PC, said in a statement.
Opera has plans to integrate additional capabilities into Aria in the future, such as search services powered by its key partners to deliver a unified user experience.
The implementation of Aria represents a step forward in Opera’s strategy to integrate generative AI services in its browsers as it seeks to compete with Google and Microsoft in big tech’s browser wars. Earlier this year, Opera announced that it would be incorporating AI-generated content (AIGC) services into its PC and mobile browsers. In April, the company released its new AI-powered browser, Opera One.
Desktop users can now test Aria by downloading the latest developer version of Opera One, while Android users can now test Aria in the latest beta version of the browser, downloadable in the Google Play Store.
Users will simply need to create an Opera account to access Aria to be whitelisted. Following whitelist approval, can access the Aria through the settings of Opera for Android beta or through the browser sidebar of Opera One.
