Pryon, a Raleigh-based AI startup specializing in virtual assistants for businesses, has secured $100 million in its latest funding round. The company is now valued between $500 million and $750 million.

The US Innovative Technology Fund, a prominent AI-focused investment vehicle led by billionaire film producer Thomas Tull, known for investments in companies like Anduril and Shield AI, spearheaded the funding. Pryon’s substantial funding represents a milestone for AI companies based in the Triangle region.

Pryon was founded in 2017 by Igor Jablokov, previously behind the startup Yap, which was acquired by Amazon to develop Alexa.

Over the past year, Pryon has expanded its operations, building a robust sales team and securing customers across various sectors, including finance, government, and industrial domains, where its technology enhances productivity.

Virtual assistants can empower businesses to upload and manage vast amounts of internal data, subsequently providing quick and accurate responses to employee inquiries related to this data.

Igor Jablokov, the CEO of Pryon, emphasized the company’s commitment to building a trustworthy AI system. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that the answers provided by Pryon’s AI are rooted in reliable sources, stating that “Every answer coming out of Pryon is always anchored to ground truth,” ensuring transparency and accuracy in the information it delivers. Moreover, Jablokov stressed the need for companies to have confidence in AI systems, especially when they rely on them for critical tasks.

Pryon’s technology is currently employed by various companies, ranging from nuclear power plants to semiconductor firms. According to Jablokov, the startup is in the process of finalizing agreements with hospital systems as well. Furthermore, the versatility of its technology enables it to be adaptable across multiple industries, taking static content and applying it in diverse ways.

Pryon’s algorithms interact with data, enabling users to engage with it, with potential applications spanning from customer support to corporate assistance. This technology can generate a wide range of content, including cafeteria menus and schematics, as described by Jablokov.
