Nike Introduces a .Swoosh NFT Sneaker Drop, Inspired by Air Force 1

Sportswear giant Nike has announced the release of its first NFT collection, debuting on its web3 community platform .Swoosh. Dubbed “Our Force 1,” the collection features digital kicks inspired by the Air Force 1 Low model. The original sneaker was first released in 1982 and has been remixed multiple times since then. The “OF1” collection re-invents the iconic shoes again, developing them for the next generation.

The “OF1” drop will include sneaker non-fungible tokens minted in the Polygon blockchain. There will be two types of NFTs: the Classic Remix sneaker boxes and the New Wave boxes.

The first box contains virtual Air Force 1 models released between 1982 and 2006, while the second features shoes designed in 2007 and the following years. Sneaker NFT holders will reportedly get access to various benefits and utilities, including limited-edition products and exclusive experiences. Each box goes for $19.82.

.Swoosh community members will be able to access the collection starting on May 10.

“The OF1 collection shows how Nike will continue to innovate at the intersection of play and culture for the future of sports. We are exploring new ways to tell stories and create relationships while removing the barriers and limitations of the physical product. With more members choosing to express themselves across physical and digital worlds, .SWOOSH is the marketplace of the future,”

said the global VP/GM of Nike Virtual Studios, Ron Faris.

Notably, this is not Nike’s first step into the web3 space. In November 2022, the company introduced its web3 community platform, .Swoosh. More than that, in December 2021, Nike acquired the native web3 studio RTFKT. Together, the organizations released several phygital fashion items and even a collection of phygital sneakers. However, the garment was not vastly promoted by Nike on its official social media. In fact, several Twitter users believe that the company should have mentioned the Cryptokicks collection more and that the RTFKT community “deserves better.”
