Meta will launch an Avatar Store with luxury fashion items
Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and the director of fashion partnerships at Instagram Eva Chen have announced the launch of the first Avatar Store. The announcement took place during Eva’s live stream on Instagram.
Avatar Store will allow Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook users to purchase digital clothing for their avatars used in profile pictures, stickers, and emojis.
“Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the Metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy,” said Mark.
Avatar Store will feature digital luxury fashion garments. Prada, Balenciaga, and Thom Browne are the first brands on the list, with more brands coming to the Avatar Store soon. The fashion brands introduced digital suits, a hoodie, and motocross outfits.
During the live stream, Mark and Eva discussed the fits that will be available in the Store.
“I am very grateful and proud that these iconic brands are joining us to kick off fashion in the Metaverse. Because they know a lot more about this than I probably ever will,” said Zuckerberg.
To start, Meta will launch the Avatar Store in the United States, Thailand, Mexico, and Canada. The company did not share further details or due dates.
