Johnny Depp donates almost $800,000 from his NFT art sales
Johnny Depp launched an NFT collection called “Never Fear Truth” at the beginning of the year to share his art with fans. After releasing 11,111 generative art NFTs, he pledged to donate 25% of all proceeds to charities, which last week amounted to almost $800,000.
Four organizations will receive donations: Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, The Footprint Coalition, and The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
The NFT art collection was developed from Depp’s original artwork that included self-portraits and portraits of friends, heroes, and family: Hunter S. Thompson, Tim Burton, Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Heath Ledger, Lily-Rose Depp, his late dog Mooh, and a fictional character named “Bunnyman” created by his son. Depp’s brightly-colored NFT art is a mix of pop and street art.
Each NFT provides access to Depp’s Discord community, the actor’s future NFT works and partnerships, and a physical copy of the artwork.
“We are grateful and very thankful to the Never Fear Truth community for this tremendous accomplishment – making this project one of the most philanthropic NFT sales to date – and we are excited to build on this success and making an even greater impact going forward,” a Twitter post read.
The “Never Fear Truth” collection has raised over 1,600 ETH ($1.8 million) in trading volume on OpenSea and has a floor price of 0.45 ETH. The NFTs are also available on Rarible.
“My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves,” Depp said after the NFT collection release.
