Balmain, Space Runners, and Seizon Partner for a Fashion Metaverse and Phygital Unicorn Sneakers
In Brief
Balmain partners with Space Runners and Seizon to release an NFT collection of phygital Unicorn sneakers, which will go live in March.
The companies are developing a fashion and art-focused metaverse.
French luxury fashion brand Balmain partners with web3 project Space Runners and NFT collection Seizon to develop a fashion and art-focused metaverse and a phygital “Unicorn” sneakers collection.
The actual “Unicorn” shoe was released by Balmain in June 2022. The price of these cyber-inspired designer sneakers starts at €995. Starting in March, Balmain lovers will have the opportunity to purchase non-fungible tokens that back physical unicorn sneakers in existing and not-yet-released colors. NFT owners will also get access to Space Runners and Balmain’s upcoming fashion metaverse. In addition, lucky holders will receive digital wearables based on the rarity tier of their sneakers.
Space Runners, which previously released digital-only projects, plans to develop various metaverse-ready features for the sneaker. For instance, in the future, users will reportedly be able to experience avatar customization, metaverse commerce, and digital try-on.
It’s worth noting that customers will have the option to purchase Unicorn NFTs by paying either in ETH or in fiat currencies. While the companies have not announced the exact minting price yet, we can guess it will be more than $1000. Individuals that wish to mint the Unicorn NFTs can apply for the waitlist on a dedicated website.
Notably, this is not Balmain’s first step into the web3 space. In December 2021, the company released NFT-backed sneakers that granted holders access to VIP experiences. In January 2022, the brand partnered with NFT marketplace MINTNFT to issue a Barbie-inspired NFT collection.
Following this, Balmain announced “The Balmain Thread,” an NFT-based membership for true fashion fans. Token holders can access exclusive drops, virtual and IRL events, rewards, and other perks.
