Taiwan is willing to share its achievements in advancing digital democracy and the appropriate application of artificial intelligence, according to Digital Minister Audrey Tang, in order to assist the international community in achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The minister said as much during her address “Digital Democracy in the Age of AI” on September 19, in New York City, at the Concordia Annual Summit, which was held in conjunction with the 78th United Nations General Assembly.

Tang argues that the misuse of AI presents new risks to democratic norms. According to her, the way forward is to concentrate on plurality, or collaborative diversity, to broaden democracy’s reach through digital technology and take into consideration differences in order to find a common ground for everyone. According to Tang, when it comes to addressing moral and political dilemmas on a global basis, democracy is the best solution. He also stated that the government would keep using artificial intelligence (AI) to support deliberative democracy in accordance with the tenets of participation, advancement, and security.

The minister said, “Taiwan will not waver in its determination to defend human rights and foster equitable economic prosperity for all as a responsible stakeholder of the global community.”
