Crypto analytics platform Nansen, today disclosed a security breach that exposed a portion of its user base to potential risks. The breach led to the exposure of email addresses, password hashes, and blockchain addresses of some users.
In a public announcement, the firm revealed that the incident was the result of a compromise in one of its third-party vendor’s systems.
The breach has impacted approximately 6.8% of Nansen’s users. It occurred due to a third-party vendor’s online system, utilized by numerous Fortune 500 companies, was compromised. Nansen, however, refrained from disclosing the vendor’s name.
Nansen clarified that the intrusion granted the attacker administrative access to an account pivotal for providing customer access to its platform.
Taking swift action, Nansen sent notifications to affected users yesterday via email, advising them to promptly change their passwords. This precaution was recommended to mitigate potential risks, as other applications utilizing the same email address and password combinations could be vulnerable.
Several Nansen users took to Twitter to share their receipt of email alerts from the firm, further underlining the seriousness of the situation.
The company has reportedly initiated a comprehensive investigation in collaboration with the affected vendor and external legal advisors. Nansen committed to maintaining a transparent line of communication with its users throughout the investigative process.
