Nadya Tolokonnikova, Ellen von Unwerth, and Rolling Stone are set to release an NFT collection
In Brief
Rolling Stone, Pussy Riot’s Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Ellen von Unwerth will drop an NFT collection on Coinbase’s NFT marketplace on January 11
The collection will feature 11 photographs of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova
The renowned magazine Rolling Stone and Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova have announced the launch of an NFT collection. Dubbed “MATRIARCHY NOW,” it features eleven photographs shot by well-known German photographer Ellen von Unwerth.
Model-turned-photographer Von Unwerth is famous for celebrities’ nude shots and portraits. Within this collaboration, she is in charge of the artistiс expression of Tolokonnikova’s sexuality, which aims to promote the equality of men and women.
The NFTs will feature the following topics: “Matriarchy now,” “Adoration,” “Ascent of the blessed,” “Martyrdom,” “The last judgment,” “Hermit Saint,” “The garden of earthly delights,” “Heaven,” “Paradise,” and “The temptation of St. Anthony.” In addition to eleven NFT photographs, the trio will auction an NFT recreation of a Rolling Stone cover featuring Nadya Tolokonnikova. The winner will receive an official physical art print of the image backed by the NFT. Proceeds from the one-of-one artwork sales will go to women’s reproductive rights organizations.
The release will take place on Coinbase’s NFT platform on January 11. On a side note, the marketplace went live in April of 2022 in the beta version and is still only available in beta.
Notably, this is not Tolokonnikova’s first step into web3. In 2021, she co-founded Unicorn DAO, which promotes gender-fluid utopias. In May this year, the organization raised $4.5 million to support women and LGBTQ+ artists. Following, in July, Nadya’s feminist collective Pussy Riot partnered with digital artist Ksti Hu to release the “Proof of Protest” NFT collection.
