Meta’s Instagram Is Rumoured to Launch AI Chatbots With 30 Personalities

In Brief

Instagram is rumored to introduce AI chatbots for enhanced user engagement, offering question-answering, advice, and message-writing assistance.

Leaked images reveal a choice of 30 AI personalities for personalized interactions.

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, previously mentioned the development of AI personas and the integration of chatbots into text-based conversations, aligning with the company’s AI aspirations.

Instagram is rumored to be introducing AI chatbots for a more engaging experience. Leaked images suggest these bots will answer questions, give advice, and even help users with message writing. According to mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi, users can choose from 30 different AI personalities for a personalized touch.

While Meta has made no official announcements regarding this particular feature, the concept of chatbots aligns with the company’s previous statements about its AI aspirations. In February, CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned Meta’s ongoing development of AI personas to assist users in various capacities. The company also expressed interest in integrating these bots into text-based conversations, similar to the chat functions found in WhatsApp and Messenger.

Other large tech companies have also recognized the value of chatbots. In February, Snapchat introduced its own chatbot called My AI, which uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Microsoft Bing has made strides in the area too. Websites like Character.ai have gained substantial popularity (1.7 million installs within a week) by enabling users to interact with chatbots modeled after beloved fictional characters. TikTok is also currently testing an AI chatbot called Tako.

Instagram is reportedly launching a text-based app to rival Twitter. The app is currently undergoing tests with notable celebrities and influencers, and its release is expected this month. It will offer concise communication with a 500-character limit, feature a feed, support videos and images, and prioritize creator control and account safety.

Last month, Meta announced an open-source speech AI model called MMS, which recognizes over 4,000 spoken languages and generates text in 1,100 languages. The social media giant collected data for training the model using unconventional methods, like audio recordings of religious texts. Despite limited computational power, the model performed well, covering more languages than existing models.
