Meta’s Horizon Worlds and XTADIUM add 52 VR NBA games and experiences
In Brief
Meta is releasing over 50 live NBA games in VR on Meta Quest, including five in immersive, 180-degree games.
The NBA, WNBA, G League, and 2K League content will be available on XTADIUM and Meta Horizon Worlds.
Meta is also partnering with NBA to offer team apparel in the Meta Avatars Store.
Meta has extended its collaboration with the NBA and WNBA to add the basketball league’s 52 VR games to Meta Quest. Back in 2020, the NBA partnered with Facebook to make Meta Quest the official headset of the league.
Users can watch over 50 upcoming games on the Meta Quest headset through Xtadium and Meta Horizon Worlds. The dedicated NBA Arena in Meta Horizon Worlds is already available. NBA fans can now watch NBA content with friends, participate in interactive mini-games, and show support for their favorite teams.
Xtadium, which launched on Meta in November, offers an immersive viewing experience with high-quality video and the ability to watch games with friends. The app also displays five games with celebrity broadcasters in 180-degree immersive VR.
Users can watch WNBA games, NBA G League games, and NBA 2K League games through the app. Meta Horizon Worlds also provides access to game highlights, recaps, and archives. In the future, fans will have the option to access even more content through an NBA League Pass subscription.
As a part of the deal, Meta will soon release NBA-licensed clothing in the Meta Avatar Store. Fans will be able to buy clothing representing their favorite NBA or WNBA team for their Meta Avatar and display it on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Meta Quest Platform.
“VR’s superpower is making it possible to immerse yourself in shared experiences with friends and fans from around the world, and we’re thrilled to bring these killer features to the NBA Arena and live games,”
said Meta Director of Metaverse Media Content, Sarah Malkin.
You can check the Meta Horizon Worlds 2023 NBA schedule here. However, Xtadium is currently only available in the U.S.
The NBA is also involved in web3. The league has its own NFT fantasy game on Sorare, a game on Niantic, and some NFT collections.
