Music Tech Veteran Shamal Ranasinghe Joins Web3 Music Platform Audius as Chief Business Officer

Decentralized music streaming platform Audius has appointed music tech veteran Shamal Ranasinghe as Chief Business Officer.
In this newly created role, Ranasinghe will oversee the company’s relationship with the music industry and lead the company in developing innovations, reporting, analytics, and other tools to help artists grow and monetize their fan bases. He brings in a lot of experience in the music technology space as he previously held roles in SiriusXM and Pandora and Yahoo Music.
A true veteran of the music technology space, Ranasinghe joins Audius from web2 audio entertainment company SiriusXM/Pandora, where he was Vice President of Product Management, Catalog and Creators for close to eight years. He built products and services at Pandora and SiriusXM for artists, podcasters, content creators, curators, labels, managers, live event promoters, venues, and the broader music industry ecosystem. He also recruited and developed talent across the organization.
“Shamal built some very sophisticated tools at Pandora that enable artists to leverage the platform to build their fan bases in very powerful ways,” Roneil Rumburg, Co-Founder and CEO of Audius said in a press release. “His deep expertise within the music business and his track record of building tools for artists and rights holders will be invaluable to Audius as we look to deepen our relationships with the music industry at large and the artists on our platform.”
Ranasinghe entered the web3 space in 2018 when he became an advisor to Audius. In 2019, he joined Authentic-Artists, a generative music company creating AI music and virtual characters for artists in web2, web3, and the metaverse, as an advisor.
He brings over 20 years of experience in music technology and fan engagement to the decentralized music streaming platform. In 2001, he co-founded Soundiron, a multi-channel audio technology company that provided surround sound for event and music production. From 2004-2007, he was the director of product management at Yahoo Music, where he led the product team focused on building data mining applications to determine the market acceptance of new music.
He is also an advisor to Beatclub, Feed.fm, and he sits on the board of Envelop, a spatial audio venue sound system and software non-profit.
Besides music tech, Ranasinghe has also started fan engagement businesses. He was a co-founder of Fluence and Curators.com, which connects curators to their fans and customers. He was also a co-founder of Topspin Media, a pioneering direct-to-fan marketing platform that helped artists promote and sell to their fans. Topspin was acquired by Beats Music in 2014.
