French luxury brand Louis Vuitton will launch its first phygital NFT collection. Called “Via,” the release will offer physical “Treasure Trunks” and corresponding non-fungible tokens. Notably, there will be only a few hundred trucks available, with one piece going for €39,000.
To purchase one of the tokens and trunks, individuals must register on the waiting list on June 8. The dedicated website will invite them to connect their crypto wallets and add personal details, such as name, country, and wallet ID. It’s important to note that this way, Louis Vuitton will be able to associate personal information with the wallet address, which is not seen as a good thing in the crypto community that praises anonymity.
On June 14, the brand will share more information about the drop will selected individuals. Then, on June 16, registrants will be invited to acquire trunks by paying in crypto or fiat currency.
The NFTs will grant holders access to future products. For instance, owners will be able to purchase “keys” that unlock access to special items. The first one will be available in the middle of June. In addition, Louis Vuitton will offer community members the possibility to participate in various experiences.
Notably, the tokens are soul-bound, meaning that holders will not be able to transfer or sell them. This way, the brand emphasizes the concept of exclusivity and a “closed community.”
Initially, Louis Vuitton became well known as a luxury brand thanks to its elite travel trunks, first made in the 19th century. So, the upcoming NFT collection will provide true Louis Vuitton fans with a new way to access the brand’s heritage.
In August 2021, Louis Vuitton introduced a free-to-play NFT-powered game, “Louis: the Game.” It celebrated 200 years after the birth of LV and educated fans about the brand’s heritage. Players could collect one of 30 non-fungible tokens while learning LV’s history in an interactive mode.
