Chipotle partners with Snapchat to launch a wellness-inspired AR experience
In Brief
The popular chain restaurant Chipotle has partnered with Snap Inc. to launch a new augmented reality (AR) lens for the Snapchat app.
The lens aims to encourage Chipotle’s fans to move their bodies and lead healthier lifestyles.
Chipotle Mexican Grill is kicking off 2023 with a fitness-inspired AR Lens on Snapchat to encourage customers to adopt healthy habits. The company created an engaging AR lens to inspire fans to workout with Chipotle-inspired exercises and relax with meditation prompts.
Chipotle launches its AR Lens on Friday, January 13. The day is also known as Quitter’s Day, when people are most likely to fail in fulfilling their New Year’s resolutions. The feature is available on Snapchat, which is free to download for iOS and Android devices.
One hundred thousand Chipotle’s U.S.-based customers who complete the Snapchat challenges will receive a promo code for a free side or guacamole topping. The company wrote that it’s the first time a restaurant is promoting physical activity and wellness through an AR Lens on Snapchat.
Along with the AR Snapchat Lens, Chipotle is offering a new lineup of healthy Lifestyle Bowls (only available in the U.S. and Canada), aiming to attract Gen Z and Millennial customers.
“We’re making new year’s resolutions fun by gamifying the experience and offering balanced meals made with real ingredients that you feel good eating,” said Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer at Chipotle.
Unlike restaurants and the food industry, AR technology has become increasingly popular with fashion brands. For instance, Burberry uses Snap’s AR try-on tools that allow fashion lovers to thoroughly view clothes, shoes, and accessories in their home space. Snapchat has also been testing out NFTs as AR filters.
