Decentraland announces the third annual Metaverse Art Week
Virtual world Decentraland announces the third annual Metaverse Art Week 2022. Dubbed “The World is Made of Code,” the event will take place from August 24 to 28 inside Decentraland.
This year, Decentraland takes inspiration from noted art exhibitions Venice Biennale and Miami Art Basel. Featured artworks will focus on technology, virtuality, and Metaverses, reanalyzing immersive experiences and discovering new boundaries.
Furthermore, the largest user-owned virtual world aims to “explore how the human spirit is hardwired to elicit an emotional response when presented with art inspired by mathematical designs present in nature.”
Since Decentraland is hosting, it’s no surprise Metaverse Art Week will take place inside the Metaverse. The virtual world’s 3D Sculpture garden, “Art Plaza,” will become an open-air museum for five days. The program features performance and conceptual art productions, immersive art installations, and, of course, NFT exhibitions. Additionally, Decentraland prepares spaces for discussions and panel talks.
The 2022 lineup includes such well-known companies as Artnet, the biggest online art community; Sotheby’s, which will introduce the first Metaverse jewelry sculpture; Estée Lauder, which has previously created digital beauty, especially for Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week; and many others.
We believe that the future of the internet should be built by decentralized communities who do not seek to profit off of user data, imagination, and creativity. This year’s Art Week is a love letter to what the next generation of artists are doing in the Metaverse.
Creative Director of the Decentraland Foundation Sam Hamilton
Decentraland continues introducing strategic partnerships, maintaining the status of the largest user-owned Metaverse platform. The company has recently collaborated with Netflix to build The Gray Man experience in the virtual world. Earlier this month, Decentraland also launched the first ATM in the virtual world, partnering with Transak payment gateway and Metaverse Architects studio.
