Sotheby’s to Auction Blue-Chip Digital Artworks From 3AC’s GRAILS Collection

Britain-founded American auction house Sotheby’s introduces GRAILS, the Three Arrows Capital NFT collection.

Founded in 2021, the collection contains several of the most significant digital artworks ever assembled. According to the announcement, the release aims to redefine the way consumers think about digital art.

The collection discovers the best pieces of contemporary digital art and the generative era. It includes artworks from several blue-chip NFT projects: Larva Labs’ Zombie CryptoPunk #664, and Autoglyphs; Tyler Hobbs’ Fidenza #725; Snowfro’s full spectrum Chromie Squiggle #1780; and Dmitri Cherniak’s Ringers #879, also known as the “The Golden Goose.” GRAILS also features Kjetil Golid’s Cube Archetype #397 and a one-of-one artwork by Alpha Centauri Kid.

The sales are scheduled for May, during the Marquee Sale Week at Sotheby’s in New York. The artworks will be released in chapters, and collectors will have the possibility to participate in auctions as well as private sales in different locations worldwide. In addition, the pieces will be on view in Sotheby’s galleries starting from May 6.

“This expansive collection marks an important moment in the rise of generative art on the blockchain in 2021, and was guided by the 3AC ethos of acquiring the some of the highest quality and rarest works available on the market. Since that defining moment, when digital art and NFTs became a genuine pop culture phenomenon, generative art has continued to gain attention from a growing audience, including from major international institutions. The emergence of this collections marks a significant opportunity for collectors to celebrate the pioneering generative artists who helped bring the form to this wider audience, and who continue to push for form forward,”

said the Head of Digital Art and NFTs at Sotheby’s, Michael Bouhanna.

Sotheby’s is among the world’s largest brokers of art, jewelry, and even digital collectibles. In October 2021, the auction house launched “Sotheby’s Metaverse,” a platform dedicated to NFTs and digital art. The Sotheby’s interest in the metaverse does not stop here – in February this year, the house auctioned the manuscript of Neal Stephenson’s “Snow Crash” and several items related to the novel.
