MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo enters the Metaverse and launches an NFT collection
MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo is launching the “X-Fuera” NFT collection through a collaboration with NFT platform MADworld and Web3 game developer Animoca Brands. The drop is part of MADworld’s NFT play-to-earn racing game.
X-Fuera is a tribute to the racer’s nickname in Spanish, X-Fuera, meaning “Through the outside.” Lorenzo is well-known in the racing world – he won the MotoGP championships three times: in 2010, 2012, and 2015. He retired in 2019.
The X-Fuera collection will include various avatars of the Spanish racer and will consist of riders and superbikes. Users will then be able to fuse riders and unlock playable characters to use in MADworld’s MADrace racing game, earning UMAD tokens as in-game rewards. The NFTs will also reward fans with prizes in the real world—meet and greet with Lorenzo, merchandise giveaways, and access to virtual events.
The complete drop will consist of four NFT mints. The first will include 9,999 riders; the second, 9,999 superbikes; the third will release MADserums to fuse the first two NFTs, and the last mint will combine both, physical and digital, with Lorenzo’s mini helmets paired with MADworld NFTs.
“Our vision is to make sure that athletes can share this Web3 experience with their fans, whilst leveraging some amazing artists through MADworld’s vast array of digital talent. Traditionally, athletes’ participation in live events are bounded geographically. We want to increase their reach so they can extend this relationship in the Web3 world,” said Robert Tran, the CEO of MADworld.
This month, Lorenzo’s rival, nine-time winner Valentino Rossi, also joined the NFT and Metaverse space by collaborating with video game developer The Hundred. The team launched a virtual racing world dubbed “VR46 Metaverse.”
