Immutable and Polygon Labs Team Up to Launch New Chain for Web3 Games
In Brief
Immutable will launch a new zkEVM powered by Polygon’s zero-knowledge technology.
The zkEVM will speed up the development of web3 games.
Immutable, a leading gaming platform provider, has announced a strategic partnership with Polygon, a provider of blockchain scalability infrastructure, to leverage the latter’s zero-knowledge technology and accelerate game development.
This partnership will see Immutable launch its zkEVM, a new EVM-compatible ZK-rollup powered by Polygon technology with full Immutable platform support. While the new zkEVM is the core product in this partnership, it will not replace Immutable’s Starkware-based solution, Immutable X.
By combining their strengths, both platforms aim to simplify decision-making for game studios and developers and provide them with a smart, safe choice, thereby accelerating time-to-market and giving them access to a vast ecosystem that will be one of the largest and most liquid for end-users.
Polygon’s zkEVM technology is widely touted as the holy grail of Ethereum scaling, significantly reducing transaction processing times and fees while remaining fully compatible with Ethereum and retaining its robust security model.
By combining the #1 web3 gaming platform – currently serving hundreds of game studios and millions of players – with Polygon’s best-in-class zkEVM technology, we are building an Ethereum-centric gaming ecosystem that is poised to take web3 mainstream and bring digital ownership to millions of people around the world,” said Robbie Ferguson, Immutable’s President and Co-Founder. “Billions of dollars of skins are sold each year with no rights for players – we’re changing that, so players are in control, and ownership is the expectation.”
Immutable and Polygon have been focused on expanding their reach into web3 gaming. Games building on Immutable and Polygon received close to $2 billion in investor funding in 2022. According to a press release, games building on Immutable and Polygon received close to $2 billion in investor funding in 2022.
There are more than 140 new titles building on Immutable, including the much-anticipated Illuvium. Immutable X will be releasing its upcoming passport for web3 gaming in April to simplify the sign-in process for gamers with password-free sign-in and automatic wallet creation.
Meanwhile, Polygon Labs has been working with studios and publishers like Square Enix, Neowiz, Midnight Society, GameSwift, and Tilting Point, as well as esports teams and streamers like Cloud9 and Dr Disrespect.
