Microsoft Announces New Features of AI-Powered Bing; Slack Unveils Slack GPT to Streamline Workflow

The tech giant has also announced a bunch of new features in Bing Chat.
Slack has unveiled AI-powered functionalities in the app and a new Einstein GPT app that surfaces customer insights.
Microsoft announced on Thursday that it had eliminated the waitlist to trial the new AI-powered Bing in Open Preview. Anyone can try the new Bing and Edge by signing into their Microsoft account.
Alongside opening up the new Bing for public preview, Microsoft has also announced a bunch of new features in Bing chat, such as:
- Transitioning from text-based search and chat to a more visually engaging experience that provides rich image and video responses.
- Shifting from one-time chat or search sessions to ongoing productivity sessions, complete with chat history and persistent chats within Edge.
- Expanding platform capabilities to allow developers and third parties to build on top of Bing.
After the recent integration of Bing Image Creator into Bing Chat, Microsoft is now expanding the feature to more than 100 languages in the AI chatbot, allowing users to create images in their native language. Expanding upon its multimodal capabilities, Microsft is working on incorporating visual search in chat so that users can upload images and search the web for related content.
Other features in the works include the explore and share functionalities in chat, allowing users to share conversations with others on social media or continue iterating on a newly discovered idea in collaborative tools. Soon, Microsoft Edge’s chat feature will offer better summarization abilities for lengthy documents, such as PDFs and long-form websites. Last but not least, Microsoft will also soon build third-party plug-ins into the Bing chat experience so that developers can build on top of it.
On the same day, Slack also unveiled new AI-powered capabilities in the instant messaging app for organizations. Dubbed Slack GPT, the AI functionalities include:
- A platform that can integrate and automate the user’s preferred language model, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude, or create a customized integration yourself.
- An array of built-in AI capabilities within Slack, such as AI-generated conversation summaries and writing assistance. Users will be able to tweak their drafts, adjust the tone, break down content, and more within the app’s message composer and canvas.
- The Einstein GPT app, which surfaces AI-powered customer insights sourced from Salesforce Customer 360 data and the Data Cloud.
“Generative AI has enormous potential to redefine how work is done. The real power of Slack GPT is it enables AI to act on valuable data from a company’s most trusted resource: its own internal knowledge,” said Lidiane Jones, CEO of Slack.
Later this year, users will be able to incorporate generative AI into their automated processes using Slack’s no-code automation tool, Workflow Builder. This allows users to add generative AI prompts as a step in their workflow.
