Gucci to host an NFT exhibition and auction
Italian luxury fashion brand Gucci is hosting a virtual art gallery. Creative director Alessandro Michele partnered with NFT marketplace SuperRare for this project. The brand is using its experimental online space “Gucci Vault” to showcase the works.
“The Next 100 Years of Gucci” celebrates the brand’s past, present, and future. Twenty-nine digital artists envisioned the future of Gucci based on a century of its heritage. Among the creators are VEXX, eBoy, Ignasi Monreal, Antoni Tudisco, AlienQueen, and others.
The brand will organize three dedicated Twitter Spaces to discuss the artworks. Curator and writer Rowynn Dumont will host the talks. The recordings will be available as episodes of the Gucci Podcast.
The fashion brand will present the artworks in three drops. The first one takes place from June 23 to July 1, the second from July 7 to July 15, and the third from July 21 to July 29. The first part of the auction is now open for bidding.
This is not the first time the fashion house has dabbled in NFTs. In January this year, Gucci issued an NFT collection in collaboration with SUPERPLASTIC. In May, the brand started accepting cryptocurrencies in selected U.S. stores. Recently Gucci partnered with Roblox to invite users to a virtual Gucci Garden in the Metaverse.
