Starbucks launches beta of its web3 Odyssey experience
In Brief
Starbucks launches Beta of Starbucks Odyssey, the Web3 extension of the company’s Rewards loyalty program
Coffee fans can still sign up for the Beta access waitlist
Global coffee chain Starbucks launches the beta version of the Odyssey experience on the Polygon blockchain.
Practically speaking, Starbucks Odyssey is an extension of the company’s Rewards loyalty program, which is used by approximately 27.4 million people globally, and it is constantly growing. During Q3 2022, the number of Starbucks Rewards membership holders grew by 13%.
So, Starbucks aims to reward its loyal members in innovative ways. The company will use blockchain technology to mint NFTs and more. Polygon will provide sustainable tech assistance to the project, enabling Starbucks to surprise its fans in a carbon-neutral mode.
Starbucks Odyssey will unlock exclusive access to special perks and events. For instance, the company will offer interactive activities to its fans. Dubbed “Journeys,” the experiences will give participants the possibility to win NFTs and points. Once collected, individuals will be able to use the points and “Journey Stamps” NFTs to unlock more benefits and never-seen-before coffee experiences.
In 2023, the Seattle-based company will also roll out the “Starbucks Odyssey market,” developed in partnership with Nifty Gateway. The platform is being created especially for “Limited-Edition Stamps” artworks designed by the company’s team.
“Starbucks has a history of harnessing emerging technology to innovate on behalf of our customers and making it easily accessible and approachable for the mainstream. Our innovative spirit and the desire to continuously exceed the expectations of our customers has led to the launch of Starbucks Odyssey,”
said Starbucks’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Brady Brewer.
The Starbucks Odyssey’s beta version launched on December 8 for a small group of U.S.-based waitlist members. Nonetheless, coffee fans can still sign up for the beta access waitlist on a dedicated page. Starbucks will start sending out beta invitations in January.
