FIFA launches an NFT platform for football digital collectibles
FIFA has announced the launch of an NFT platform for football digital collectibles. Dubbed “FIFA+ Collect,” it is set to launch by the end of September.
The International Federation of Association Football partnered with Algorand blockchain to develop the platform. It’s worth noting that Algorand became the official blockchain partner of FIFA in May this year and will become a technical partner and sponsor of the 2022 World Cup.
“FIFA’s platform – via a truly decentralised and scalable public blockchain – is the first tangible representation of the technical partnership recently announced between FIFA and Algorand. The commitment FIFA has made to bridge to Web3 enabled by Algorand, is a testament to their innovative spirit and desire to directly and seamlessly engage with football fans around the world,”
said the interim CEO of Algorand, W. Sean Ford.
FIFA+ Collect will feature NFTs of memorable moments from the World Cup 2022, which takes place in November in Qatar. Additionally, the platform will offer NFTs from the Women’s World Cup championships. FIFA also stated that the platform will host more exclusive collections in the nearest future.
The platform will be available in English, Spanish, and French languages across mobile devices and the web.
“Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favourite players, moments and more on new platforms,”
said Romy Gai, FIFA’s Chief Business Officer.
