BAYC and OtherSide Discords attacked in giveaway scam
On June 4, an anonymous team took control of Bored Ape Yacht Club and OtherSide Discord servers.
The hackers captured Boris Vagner’s Discord account, the community manager of Yuga Labs. He is in charge of the official BAYC Discord channel, as well as the OtherSide Metaverse project channel. Using Boris’ account, the hackers posted fake “limited-quantity giveaway” links that led users to a phishing attack.
The hackers managed to steal one Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT and two Mutant Ape NFTs to the tune of approximately 200 ETH (nearly $400,000.)
Holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs often become victims of phishing attacks and scams.
This is not the first time hackers get hold of official BAYC accounts. In April this year, the team made a Twitter announcement about the hack of the official BAYC Instagram. The attackers stole 91 NFTs, worth approximately $2.8 million.
On April 25, a hacker logged into the official Discord channels of Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, and Mutant Ape Kennel Club members.
Yuga Labs team is currently investigating the hack. Users that were impacted can contact the team via mail.
