Google Joins Forces with Blockchain Firms to Boost Web3 Startup Program

In Brief

Google Cloud has announced partnerships with Aptos, Celo, Flow, and others to offer up to $6 million in grants to web3 startups.

Web3 projects that have raised pre-seed to Series A funding can apply to join the program.

Participating web3 startups will receive up to $200,000 over two years in Google Cloud Credits.

Google has announced it is expanding its Google Cloud Startup Program to early-stage web3 projects in partnership with Aptos, Celo, Flow, the HBAR Foundation, Near, and the Solana Foundation.

To support web3 startups in building on Google Cloud, these blockchain firms have pledged $1 million each. Moreover, web3 startups without funding will receive up to $2,000 in Google Cloud Credits, while those with confirmed pre-seed to Series A funding will receive up to $200,000 in Google Cloud Credits over a period of two years.

Participating startups with verified funding can also receive a total of up to $3 million from the Polygon Ventures Ecosystem Fund; priority review for the Base Ecosystem Fund, introductions to the Coinbase Ventures and Listing teams, testnet Base Goerli ETH for building, and more.

Other web3-specific benefits for eligible participants in the program include:

  • One-month free usage of Nansen Query and 20% off Nansen products and engagement fees for an additional 12 months.
  • Up to $10,000 in credits from web3 developer platform, Alchemy, along with VIP support and mentorship to bounce ideas, share product updates, and gather feedback.
  • Gasless contract deployment with thirdweb, dedicated development support, and dollar-matching up to $2,500 to promote Explore marketplace custom contracts.
  • VIP access to global Google Cloud Web3 events, such as Paris Blockchain Week, Consensus, and TOKEN2049 Singapore.

“Our new benefits give Web3 projects and startups the technology, community, and resources that they need to focus on innovation over infrastructure as they build decentralized apps, Web3 tooling, services and more,” Ryan Kiskis Director of Google Cloud Startup Ecosystem, wrote in a blog post.

For developers, Google offers web3-specific products such as BigQuery public data sets, as well as fully managed, serverless offerings like Cloud Run, Firestore, Firebase, and BigQuery. Last year, Google Cloud launched the Blockchain Node Engine and formed dedicated digital asset and web3 engineering teams.

With the Web3 Startup Program, Google is ramping up its web3 strategy as it seeks to beat Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure and attract more web3 developers to its cloud computing platform.
