Loora, the generative AI English tutor, emerged from stealth today with $9.25M raised in a seed round led by Israeli VC firm, Emerge, with participation from Two Lanterns Venture Partners and Kaedan Capital.
Angel investors, including Zohar Gilon, managing partner at Israeli tech-focused VC Tamar Technology Ventures, and Amit Gilon, as well as several founders from prominent technology companies Lightricks and ironSource, also contributed to the round.
Loora is a generative AI English learning platform built for personalized English learning. Its AI offers learners the experience of speaking with a virtual native English speaker by simulating natural and interactive conversations.
The company claims that the platform is available whenever needed and covers a wide range of topics. Loora’s AI system delivers real-time feedback to enhance the learning experience. Loora aims to provide an affordable alternative to private tutors and other apps on the market that are gamified or used as a form of entertainment than education.
Commenting on the idea behind the app, Roy Mor, CEO and co-founder of Loora, said:
“English is the lingua franca of today’s globalized world, and without mastery of the language, professional success can be an uphill battle. Yet, most people still lack access to affordable and impactful English learning solutions.”
“General-purpose generative AI models are effective in the execution of generic tasks, but there is a massive advantage in building and training an AI specifically for a domain. This is why Loora envisioned and built their AI tutor with the sole purpose of teaching English,” added Liad Rubin, General Partner at Emerge.
Loora is available via a subscription model. The app is currently available for download in the App Store, with plans to expand to Android in 2023. The company says that it “already has thousands of paid subscribers spanning the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.”
