Timex to release 500 Bored Ape Yacht Club watch sets
In Brief
Timex releases 500 BAYC-branded watch sets for BAYC and MAYC holders
Individuals can purchase the Timepiece Forge Pass NFTs for 2 ETH
Watch brand Timex partners with the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection to release 500 watch sets.
The initiative is aimed exclusively at Bored Ape and Mutant Ape NFT holders, who will have the opportunity to create their one-of-one watch sets.
Watches can be customized by NFT owners. They can choose the case out of the several styles of the iconic Timex Waterbury Classic design: matte black, polished gold, rose gold, and silver. Timex will print the customized Ape image on the watch. Customers can also engrave the back of the case with the NFT’s token number or the NFT itself. Then, holders can order the wristband of their choice – Timex offers both novelty Ape-inspired wristbands and more classic options like stainless steel or leather bracelets.
While the average retail price of Timex watches is approximately $270, the BAYC-branded pieces go for 2 ETH (approximately $2580 at the time of writing). No surprise that BAYC holders and other fans of the collection claim them to be too expensive for Timex watches.
The community pre-sale of the watch collection took place during an exclusive event at Art Basel Miami. From December 4 through December 31, BAYC and MAYC holders can purchase the Timepiece Forge Pass NFTs that validate the watches’ authenticity.
Starting from December 16, NFT holders will be able to create their one-of-one watches on a dedicated platform. Following this, the pieces will be produced and shipped at the beginning of Q2 2023.
It’s worth noting that Timex is not the first watch brand to create NFT-themed items. In June this year, luxury Swiss brand TAG Heuer released a smartwatch that displays users’ NFTs. The “Connected Calibre E4” model connects the owner’s crypto wallet to the watch and displays the NFT of choice.
