Web2 giants to create The Metaverse Standards Forum
Tech giants established “The Metaverse Standards Forum” to develop an inclusive and open Metaverse.
The organization will focus on action-based projects and open-source tooling to accelerate the adoption of the Metaverse standards. It will also work on the development of consistent terminology and deployment guidelines.
More than 30 companies participated in the creation of The Metaverse Standards Forum, including Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games, Unity, Sony, Adobe, Huawei, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm. The Sandbox, Decentraland, and Roblox are not on the founders’ list. Apple and Google, currently working on their AR/VR headsets, are not present either.
The activities will be directed toward the interests and needs of the members. These might include topics like interactive 3D assets, user-created content, avatars, privacy, identity management, and financial transactions.
“Multiple industry leaders have stated that the potential of the metaverse will be best realized if it is built on a foundation of open standards,” we can read on the website’s homepage.
The organization will provide a venue for cooperation open to any company, industry association, or university for no cost.
The Metaverse Standards Forum plans to host its first meeting in July this year.
