Eva Herzigová is a renowned Czech supermodel who has appeared on runways, ad campaigns, and magazine covers for over three decades. Now, at the age of 50, she created a three-dimensional digital twin of herself with talent agency Unsigned and virtual production studio Dimension Studios that will allow her likeness to work in the modeling industry.
In other words, the model, who has been making waves since the 1990s, is now available for brands to hire for mixed-reality fashion experiences for a new era. Eva Herzigová has become the first supermodel to transform into a realistic MetaHuman (digital human).
Dimension Studios specializes in creating advanced digital humans, XR content, location-based entertainment experiences, and virtual production. The company is redefining the production of realistic virtual humans and avatars, enabling storytellers to build powerful connections between viewers and characters. Dimension Studios has collaborated with fashion brands such as Balenciaga, Jean Paul Gaultier, and H&M, creating avatars and virtual experiences for use in VR, AR, and virtual production.
The Making of Eva Herzigová’s Digital Twin
Eva underwent a 70-camera rig scanning process to gather data that was later used by a team of character artists to create a highly accurate 3D MetaHuman version of her. The team meticulously captured Eva’s likeness and further styled her in virtual clothing, hair, and makeup. They also ensured that the MetaHuman retained Eva’s signature walk by having her participate in a motion capture shoot that used Vicon systems to track her facial and body movements.
As a result, the MetaHuman version of Eva can easily pose, dress in different outfits, be styled with distinct hair and makeup, and be animated using motion capture or traditional animation techniques.
A MetaHuman avatar has numerous applications in real-time, including VR fashion shows, 3D browser-based experiences, modeling digital wearables, live video streams, online games, live broadcasts, and 2D videos and stills.
“The process of giving birth to my MetaHuman (digital human) has been incredible, it genuinely feels a mother-like experience: creating every aspect of me, as me. My skin and bone, the way that I move, frown, smile: and at the same time everything can be changed at the flick of a switch or the drag of a mouse, my look, smile, background, age: everything can be changed and adjusted,”
Eva Herzigová said.
With her MetaHuman, Eva can be virtually styled and photographed by some of the most creative minds in the industry, all from the comfort of her home. She can be virtually present in London, Paris, Milan, and New York, while doing daily tasks, such as cooking dinner with her children.
