Etihad Airways issues NFTs
Etihad Airways launches an NFT collection dubbed “EY-ZERO01.”
It features 2,003 limited-edition NFTs of detailed 3D aircraft model of Etihad Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner livery. The aircraft NFTs come in four Etihad-themed designs, including “Manchester City FC” and “Greenliner.”
Every NFT owner will get the Etihad Guest Silver status membership for a year, and ten lucky holders will win a free flight. The ownership also grants early access to Etihad’s future NFT collections and Metaverse experiences.
Every NFT goes for $349. Individuals can purchase the tokens via the Etihad Guest Reward Shop and the website. As a side note, loyalty program members have the option to redeem Guest Miles for NFTs.
“We’re excited to launch our first NFT collection, EY-ZERO1, which not only offers collectors, aviation enthusiasts, and travelers a unique work of art but provides real-world travel and lifestyle benefits with Etihad Airways. NFTs and other metaverse technologies are revolutionizing the digital economy, and we are proud to be one of the first airlines in the world to explore their potential to provide additional utility for our customers,” says Group Chief Executive Officer at Etihad Aviation Group, Tony Douglas.
The collection is minted on the energy-efficient Polygon blockchain. In addition, Etihad Airways partners with California-based company aerial.is to track the carbon emission of NFTs. Speaking of emissions, all the proceeds from NFT sales will be allocated to purchase sustainable aviation fuel in 2022.
Among other airline companies entering the Web3 space are Qatar and Emirates, both currently building dedicated Metaverses.
