Microsoft introduces animated avatars and AI features to the video conference app Teams
In Brief
Microsoft will launch Teams Premium featuring custom avatars and AI features.
The paid version will cost around $10 and will release in December 2022.
During the Ignite conference this week, tech giant Microsoft announced new features to its video conference platform Teams. The popular platform has over 270 million monthly active users.
The paid Teams Premium will include new customizable animated avatars and AI-powered tasks and guides. Teams Premium will kick off in a preview mode in December 2022.
Microsoft will announce the official price once Teams Premium is available to the general public, but the company predicts the Premium service will cost $10 per month. In comparison, Teams Premium will be more expensive than Google’s cheapest workspace-video conference service at $6 and cheaper than the top video conference platform Zoom Pro ($15 per month).
As a part of Microsoft’s Mesh platform, the avatars will be customizable and represent users during Teams meetings. Users can create up to three avatars through the Avatars app in the Teams app store. At the moment, avatars are only available in standard Teams for a private preview. Interested customers can sign up for a trial on the Teams website.
Other features of Teams Premium will include AI. Intelligent Recap will collect and display highlights of video conference meetings. Meanwhile, an Intelligent Playback feature will create chapters from the recordings.
Real-time translation for 40 languages will be another addition to Teams Premium. For enhanced security, Microsoft will include Advanced Meeting Protection to cover confidential board meetings and undisclosed product launches.
Yesterday, Microsoft announced its partnership with Meta to launch Office 365 in the virtual world. Office 365 will be available in the Meta Platform, allowing users to connect and have virtual meetings with Meta’s Quest 2 VR headset.
