Epic Games Partners with LEGO to Create a Family-friendly Metaverse for Kids

‘LEGO Group’ and ‘Epic Games’ have partnered to build a metaverse that will inspire children and give them tools to create in a safe and encouraging digital environment. Two prominent names in the gaming industry plan to create “an immersive, creatively inspiring and engaging digital experience.”

‘Epic Games’ is an American game developer that created popular video games Fortnite’ and ‘Battle Breakers,’ whereas ‘Lego Group’ is famous for producing physical construction toys-plastic blocks for kids to build structures.

Both ‘Lego’ and ‘Epic Games’ have licenses with world-renowned companies, such as Marvel, DC Universe, and Star Wars. The two companies also have long-term experience in game creation for children, therefore they seem to be a great match to bring a new digital world to families.

As per the official statement, the metaverse creators focus on the safety and well-being of children: safeguarding their privacy and empowering kids and parents to gain control over their virtual experience.

“We are excited to come together to build a space in the metaverse that’s fun, entertaining, and made for kids and families,” Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said.

“Kids enjoy playing in digital and physical worlds and move seamlessly between the two. We believe there is huge potential for them to develop life-long skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences,” the CEO of Lego, Niels B Christiansen, commented.

The metaverse is rapidly evolving, providing new ways to interact for people of all ages. However, some metaverse apps have been considered dangerous for children. A researcher from BBC News Investigation used a metaverse app as a 13-year-old girl and witnessed sexual threats and racist insults. The researcher was allowed to enter a strip club and was exposed to adult content. Thus, child-oriented metaverses could help solve such issues by being an alternative to virtual worlds designed for adults.
